What ships, who pays for which leg, and what happens when a carrier loses it.
Up to three parcels, and they do not all come from us
A shipped tuning order can involve three separate movements. Knowing which is which prevents the most common confusion on a locked-ECU job.
- Your RTD4, from us to you. Included in the price. Nothing is added at checkout.
- Your engine controller to HP Tuners in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, if it has to be unlocked. You send this one, 2-day air, at your cost.
- Your controller back from HP Tuners to you. This is the line you paid for at checkout — $100 for 2-day air or $140 for next-day.
Do not ship your controller until we tell you to
HP Tuners works to an order number that we have to place on our account first, and it does not exist at the moment you pay. A module that arrives in Illinois without that number written on it cannot be matched to your job.
So you get two emails. The first, immediately, tells you everything except the number and tells you to wait. The second carries the number. Write it on the OUTSIDE of the package in marker, then ship.
We never receive your controller. It goes from you to HP Tuners and back to the shipping address on your order. We do not handle it at any point on a shipped order.
Insure it
We recommend declaring $1,500 of coverage when you ship your controller. It is the brain of the car, not a spare part, and a carrier’s default liability will not replace one.
The return leg from HP Tuners is prepaid by us at the speed you selected. The outbound leg is yours, and so is the risk on it.
Why the return shipping is a flat figure
Illinois to Tennessee and Illinois to Southern California are not the same parcel, and the true cost is only known when we place the order with HP Tuners. Rather than guess per destination or bill you afterwards, we charge one flat figure that averages out. Sometimes we make a little on it and sometimes we lose a little.
What we cannot ship at all
Racing fuel does not ship. Ignite E85, E90 and E98 are flammable liquids under UN3475, and the limited-quantity exception caps inner packaging well below a 5-gallon pail. It is collection only, from the shop in Corona.
If a parcel goes missing
Call us on (951) 405-4465 with your order number. For a leg we paid for, we open the claim. For the leg you shipped, the claim is yours to file with your carrier, which is why the insurance advice above matters.
A lost controller is not a lost part. Replacing one means sourcing a module and, in most cases, buying the licensing again, because a licence binds to the ECM it was applied to.
